THE HISTORICAL REGATTA

For those lucky enough to be in Venice during the first week of September, the Grand Canal reaches its climax of involvement with the folkloric and spectacular Historical Regatta: This colorful event, which took place in the times of the Serenissima to celebrate military victories or pay homage to foreign dignitaries, consists today of two parts: the historic procession which recalls the arrival in Venice of Queen Caterina Cornaro of Cyprus in the era of the Serenissima, and the competitive regatta, during which, from Riva degli Schiavoni to the Punta della Salute, the strongest rowing crews aggressively compete in the Voga alla Veneta.

THE RIALTO MARKET

What will you find in the historic Rialto Market, wandering among the stalls filled with a wide variety of fresh foods, experiencing a moment of everyday life among the Venetians?

Under the porticoes of the pescaria you will find typical fish from the lagoon and many types of moluscs and crustaceans, while fruit and vegetable products, such as greens from the islands of the lagoon and fruit from the Venetian waterfront, are found in the erbaria.

The historic osterias and wine bars in this neighborhood testify how many businesses settled here in the past to provide refreshment to travelers. There are also many shops here selling common articles.

Location

The traditional Venetian building which hosts Hotel Graspo de Ua lies in the quiet Calle dei Bombaseri, a few meters from the Rialto Bridge and convenient for reaching St. Mark's Square.

Rialto is still home to the most important public buildings and the commercial heart of Venice; what better place to visit, early in the morning, than its bustling Market? What spot more comfortable from which to dreamily stare at the Grand Canal, and the luxurious Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque palaces dating back to the XIII and XVIII centuries, side by side in a splendid open-air setting to romantically pass by on a gondola or vaporetto? Camerlenghi Palace, former seat of financial magistrates and prison for the insolvent, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, prestigious seat of Northern merchants, now the post office, just to name a few...
